REHABILITATION FOR NEUROLOGICAL CONDITIONS

Traumatic Brain Injury

Other Conditions

Traumatic Brain Injury

The sequelae of traumatic brain injury can include changes in emotional status, personality, behaviour, and intellectual functions (e.g memory problems). In some cases, there are persistent postconcussional symptoms (this was the focus of my doctoral studies). We help in rehabilitation through the application of behaviour therapy principles, and other psychological interventions. Traumatic brain injury is associated with slowing of information processing. Biofeedback is used to retrain the brain, using EEG to increase beta waves (fast waves), and inhibit theta waves (slow waves). Please see BIOFEEDBACK pages.

Other Conditions

As is the case for traumatic brain injury, behaviour therapy is useful in helping individuals to increase their coping capabilities. For conditions such as stroke, retraining of muscles is done with the use of  BIOFEEDBACK.  We also use biofeedback to help patients to improve their attention, concentration and memory with EEG BIOFEEDBACK (ie train them to increase beta waves and to decrease theta waves)
